Alex Ciaciarelli, Oboe, Flute, Clarinet
Alex Ciaciarelli was the youngest member of "Up With People", joining in 1969 at the age of 13 touring the East Coast performing concerts, and recording television specials playing tenor saxophone in their pit band. He graduated Montclair State College with a double major in oboe and piano while becoming a certified gemologist at the Gemological Institute of America in New York City in 1979. He received his Master’s in music composition in 1982. He also did graduate work at Westminster Choir College. He received his 50 ton sea captain’s license in 1991. It has since been upgraded to 100 ton vessels. Alex has performed oboe and English horn with opera and ballet companies throughout the tri-state area and performed with a 20th century chamber ensemble series in Carnegie Hall as well as playing in numerous wedding and jazz bands. He has retired from being band director of Hazlet Middle School and now teaches private lessons, performs in musicals and outdoor summer concerts. He also has a business repairing woodwind and brass instruments.
